"París, Ciudad de la Luz no quiere decir -Ciudad con una gran cantidad de hermosas luces, sino, más bien, "La ciudad en la que, durante el siglo XVIII, las luces de la ciencia (con los biólogos como Buffon o Jussieu y con la escritores como Diderot o d'Alembert) y las luces de la filosofía (Voltaire, Rousseau, Condorcet, Montesquieu, ...) fueron encendidas".
